Distinct Challenges
High Solidity Wind Turbines
The classic three-bladed wind turbine is just one branch of wind technology, but what might other designs look like? That's an engineering challenge that students at OC are actively researching and working to solve. Our students are studying solidity (the ratio of blade surface area to the total swept area of a turbine’s rotor) to demonstrate how high solidity designs substantially outperform low solidity designs. Their designs prioritize accessible manufacturing and real-world durability, pushing the envelope of high solidity turbine applications. The application of these wind turbine designs can offer advantages, such as an immense humanitarian impact. And thanks to ongoing research at OC, high solidity systems are continuing to improve.
Accreditation
The undergraduate computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
