Softball

  • Each team must pay $10 for game balls. This is so we have the same type of ball for every game. We will use 12-inch yellow cover Gray-Dot balls for games.
  • All games will consist of seven innings or a time limit of 50 minutes. (No inning shall begin after the 50-minute point.)
  • There are run rules, which could affect the number of innings played. The run-rule structure is as follows:
    • 31 after four (4) complete innings
    • 21 after five (5) complete innings
    • 11 after six (6) complete innings
    • (There is a 10-run limit per half inning)
  • The batting team supplies its own pitcher. The batter has three pitches to hit a fair ball. A foul on a third pitch is an out. (Teams should have at least two pitchers ready at spaced intervals in the batting lineup so those switches can be made quickly to keep the game moving.)
  • The offensive pitcher must make every effort to avoid a batted ball. An obstruction call, at the discretion of the umpire, could result in the out of the batter-in, in which case no runners, may advance. A ball hitting the offensive pitcher is a dead ball. A pitcher may take three warm-up pitches between innings but none if relieving during an inning.
  • A full team is 10 players. Teams may play with nine players without penalty. Teams playing with eight players will be given a forfeit for that game. With nine or 10 players on the field, one player must be positioned with at least one foot inside the pitcher’s circle until the ball is pitched.
  • You may not step over the plate to hit the ball, and you must swing all the way through.
  • Pitches must have an arch and go above the batter's head.
  • Any pitch called an illegal pitch is considered a dead ball and is one of the three pitches. If the ball is hit on an illegal pitch and is caught off of the bat from the fielding team it is an out, but runners can not advance. If it is hit and the ball hits the ground it is just considered a dead ball and is one of the three pitches. If it is the third pitch then it is an out.
  • There are no plays at home plate (no contact, and the catcher may not block the plate).
  • There will be a chalk line placed at 20ft from the home base. Once the player has passed this line if the catcher gets the ball at home plate it will be a forced out. Anywhere before this line, the runner has the ability to turn back and try to make it back to third base. No sliding into Home Plate
  • Each team can bat as many people as they would like as long as each player fields at least once and stays in the same batting order. (This is so everyone has the opportunity to play)
  • Bases are at 60 ft; Pitcher’s rubber at 50 ft.
    • Absolutely no tobacco use or steel cleats!
