CHSE
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator
At Oklahoma Christian University, we prioritize excellence in nursing education by employing faculty with the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential. This international certification, granted by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), serves as the "gold standard" for professionals who integrate simulation into their teaching. Two of our faculty members – Christy Hallock and Trevy Rauch - are CHSE-certified.
Having CHSE-certified faculty is vital for our program for several reasons:
Evidence-Based Pedagogy: Certification affirms that our educators possess specialized knowledge in simulation principles and instructional design. This ensures that simulations are not just technical exercises but high-quality, high-fidelity learning experiences grounded in proven educational theory.
Enhanced Student Outcomes: CHSE-certified faculty are experts at facilitating structured debriefings—a critical phase where students reflect on their actions to improve clinical reasoning, communication and decision-making skills.
Commitment to Patient Safety: By adhering to international standards of best practice, our certified educators create a "safe container" for students to make and learn from mistakes without risk to real patients.
Institutional Excellence: Employing CHSE-certified staff provides external validation of our program's quality, strengthens learner confidence and often aligns with state board of nursing requirements for faculty certification.
Our CHSE-certified faculty are not just teachers; they are architects of transformation, bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world clinical practice.
