A global generosity movement benefits OC

People are good and generous and kind. Just look at the growth of Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement. In 2012, the first year of the event, PayPal processed $16 million in donations. Last year that number grew to $64 million. In total for 2018, nonprofits and individuals received $400,000,000 online in only one day! Facebook matched the first $7 million donated from that platform, really boosting the idea of participating globally.

Students celebrate the conclusion of the Homeward Pride competition with food truck treats.

On that same day, friends of Oklahoma Christian University gave $48,769! That was a 120 percent increase over Giving Tuesday the year before. OC staff were amazed and grateful to everyone who chose the university as a recipient.

These donations funded scholarships and aided the operations of the school, all elevating OC as a true standard of excellence in Christian higher education.

OC has set even higher goals for December 3. We hope to raise $60,000 on Giving Tuesday 2019!

New this year, OC has been approved for Facebook's nonprofit list. Beginning at 7 a.m. central time, Facebook matches dollar for dollar on a first-come, first-served basis. The matching offer reached $7 million within the first minutes in 2018! Look for the donate button on OC's Giving Tuesday social media posts, and set your alarm to give early.

Jasmine Benton chose to come to OC (after being accepted to her 'dream school') because of scholarship offers. Now she knows that she is home.

The Homeward Pride competition among social service clubs opens early for the one-day generosity event. Alumni are encouraged to give to their clubs and the winner is determined, not by the amount raised but, by the percentage of alumni participants. Delta Gamma Sigma and Psi Epsilon historically jostle for the top spot with more than half of their graduates donating.

The OC web site offers several giving options to donate your way, you can meet some scholarship recipients and of course, all gifts are tax deductible.

Thank you for furthering the mission of Christian higher education!
