OC Professor Named OVU President
Former Old Testament professor Dr. Harold Shank (72) is the new president of Ohio Valley University.
Shank graduated from Oklahoma Christian with a B.A. in Bible. He is a noted author and minister, with 32 years of service to Highland Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. He returned to teach at OC in 2006.
“The loss of Dr. and Mrs. Shank to the OC family is a great one. Yet, we rejoice with them in this new opportunity to serve the kingdom in another role,” OC president Dr. Mike O’Neal said. “We can be extremely proud of these OC alumni and colleagues who continue to have such a profound impact.”
Dr. Charles Rix and Dr. Grant Testut have joined OC’s biblical studies faculty. Rix comes to Oklahoma Christian from New Jersey, where he taught at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and served as the pulpit minister of the Monmouth Church of Christ in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
Rix holds graduate degrees in business, theology, and philosophy and earned his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Drew University.
As an artist, student, and teacher of Old Testament, Charles researches ways in which the scripture speaks to the issue of human suffering.
Testut is originally from Ithaca, New York, and earned his Ph.D. at Hebrew Union College. A love of languages and a desire to provide Bible-less peoples with translations of the scriptures in their mother tongues has led him to work with Bible translators in East and West Africa.
His research interests are in the Semitic languages and philological approaches to biblical texts.
