Kisorio, Mattoon Win National Championships

Silas Kisorio won a pair of national championships at both the indoor and outdoor NAIA meets this spring to increase his career total to 10 national titles.

Kisorio won the 800-meter run and the mile at Indoor Nationals, then captured the 800 meters and 1,500 meters at Outdoor Nationals. His 10 NAIA championships and 18 All-America honors are OC records.

Denise Mattoon also won a national indoor title, repeating as the weight throw champion. The senior also placed second in both the indoor and outdoor shot put and fifth in the outdoor discus competition, running her career totals to nine All-America awards and three national championships.

The men’s distance medley relay team of Kisorio, Britt Barrientez, Thomas Ducat and Nicholas Stoots also claimed All-America honors with a second-place showing at the national indoor meet. 

Geoffrey Njonjo placed third in the indoor 5,000 meters, fifth in the outdoor 10,000 meters, and sixth in the outdoor 5,000 meters to become a five-time All-American.

The men’s team tied for fourth overall at the indoor championships.
