Gibson Has Tiger-Riffic Experience at British Open
OC Athletic Hall of Famer Rhein Gibson (08) finished strong with birdies on three of his final six holes to cap the British Open with a 10-over-par 298.
Gibson had a memorable experience in his first major tournament. He made the cut with a dramatic 15-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to end the second round, then received worldwide media attention playing in a Saturday grouping with Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth.
“It wasn’t the weekend I wanted, but I’m happy I made the cut in my first major,” Gibson said. “What a treat to play with Tiger and Spieth on Saturday. I wish my game was in a better place overall, but playing four days is better than two. It will be an event I will never forget.”
Gibson, a four-time All-American at OC, attracted global attention last year by shooting a world-record 55 during a round at River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma.
