Cross Country wins OC’s first Heartland Conference championship
Led by individual race winner Brennym Kaelin, the Oklahoma Christian’s men’s cross country team completely dominated the field to take the OC athletic program’s first official Heartland Conference championship.
“I’m thankful for the way that the team supports and encourages one another and I’m glad they all came together to win and that the seniors had a good experience at their final conference meet,” OC coach Wade Miller said.
OC runners comprised more than half of the Heartland’s 17-member all-conference team and all five OC seniors were among the honorees taking home hardware.
The Eagles went on to place eighth in the NCAA’s South Central Region Championship.
On the women’s side, the Lady Eagles placed third at the Heartland Conference meet, led by a third-place individual showing by Layne Hammer.
Hammer turned in a 14th-place finish at the South Central Region Championship to become OC’s first-ever Division II All-Region honoree. The Lady Eagles finished 15th in the team race.
