Airplane design team 5th at international contest
OC beat out 29 other student teams from the United States, Canada, Egypt, India, Mexico, China, and Poland to place fifth in the SAE Aero Design West competition.
Students had to design and fly a radio-controlled airplane that carried 27 tennis balls and a half-pound steel plate, which represented passengers and luggage.
“I could not be more proud of our OC engineering students,” said Brad Buxton, faculty sponsor and assistant professor of mechanical engineering. “We really enjoyed representing OC with a strong top-five finish.”
