Oklahoma Christian University Congratulates alum and new chancellor of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Dr. Allison Garrett

Oklahoma Christian University alumnae Dr. Allison Garrett was named the ninth chancellor of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Dr. Garrett received her bachelor’s degree in English from Oklahoma Christian University in 1984, a juris doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law and a master of laws in securities regulation from Georgetown University.

Dr. Garrett became the 17th president of Emporia State University in 2016 after serving for almost four years as executive vice president at Abilene Christian University, four years as the senior vice president for academic affairs at Oklahoma Christian University and three years as an associate professor of law at Faulkner University.

Prior to her time in higher education, Dr. Garrett worked for more than 10 years at Walmart’s corporate offices holding positions of vice president and general counsel for the corporate division and vice president of benefits compliance and planning. Before her time at Walmart, she worked for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and in private practice.

"We couldn’t be prouder of our distinguished alumnae and friend for this incredible accomplishment ,” OC President John deSteiguer said. “OC has been the beneficiary of Dr. Garrett’s wisdom and work ethic, and we are better for it. The depth of her experience spans four unique leadership roles with four universities in four states. The Oklahoma State Regents and the entire higher education landscape in Oklahoma will be well positioned for success under her leadership," said deSteiguer.

Oklahoma Christian University will honor Dr. Garrett as the 2021 Distinguished Alum at the annual Alumni Banquet on Friday, November 5.
