OKLAHOMA CITY (March 10, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian will be the No. 5 seed in the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region men’s basketball tournament, which will begin Thursday in the Eagles’ Nest.
OC (10-16) will face a familiar first-round foe in Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist (Texas) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Fourth-seeded DBU (13-13) missed qualifying for the conference tournament by one game after being swept by the Eagles during the regular season. OC beat the Patriots 69-65 on Jan. 11 in Dallas and 77-60 on Feb. 20 in Oklahoma City.
The winner of the OC-DBU game will face top-seeded Southern Nazarene (14-12) in a 7:30 p.m. semifinal on Friday. SNU will receive a first-round bye as the top seed in a seven-team bracket.
The other first-round games on Thursday will pit second-seeded Colorado Christian (15-12) against seventh-seeded Crowley’s Ridge (Ark.) (12-14) at 3:30 p.m. and third-seeded Mid-America Christian (17-11) against Central Christian (Kan.) (17-14) at 5:30 p.m.
The winners of those two games will meet at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the other semifinal game. The championship game will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to the NCCAA Championship, set for March 19-22 at Grace University in Winona Lake, Ind.
Mid-America Christian is the defending regional champion, while OC reached the NCCAA title game last season.
OC has played every other team in the tournament, except Colorado Christian, at least once. The Eagles are 62-41 all-time against Southern Nazarene, 20-2 against Mid-America Christian, 18-7 against Dallas Baptist, 1-0 against Central Christian and 1-0 against Crowley’s Ridge.
