WACO, Texas (May 8, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian landed three players on the All-Heartland Conference baseball honor teams, which were announced Wednesday.
Outfielder Dillon Andrews represented the Eagles on the 17-man first-team list, while relief pitcher Chris Burgess and second baseman Cory Eastwood received second-team honors.
“This is a big-time honor for us, especially since it’s our first year in the Heartland,” OC coach Lonny Cobble said. “All three of those guys were deserving. I’m glad the other coaches in the conference thought so as well.”
Andrews, a senior from Midwest City, entered the week leading the conference in hitting at .381 with 24 RBIs, two home runs, 11 doubles and a .552 slugging percentage.
During the regular season, Burgess went 5-0 with a school-record eight saves and a 1.15 ERA, recording 42 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings. The senior from West Chicago, Ill., ranked second in the conference in saves and third in ERA.
Eastwood, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, hit .291 with 10 RBIs, batting mostly in the No. 9 spot in the lineup for the Eagles. He also posted a .944 fielding percentage.
Andrews and Burgess were named earlier in the week to the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region honor team.
