Big inning helps OC salvage softball split at Cameron
LAWTON, Okla. (March 19, 2013) – Kendra Pierce homered and had two RBIs and Oklahoma Christian rode a four-run third inning to beat Cameron 8-5 on Tuesday at Cameron Field in the second game of a doubleheader.
Cameron scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the first game 8-7.
OC (13-11) and Cameron (9-15) were tied 2-2 after two innings in the second half before the Lady Eagles’ big third inning against Cameron starter Stephanie Anderson (0-8), during which they recorded five of their 11 hits. Lauren Pittman, Kala Ratliff, Lauren Chatigny and Monique Elliott each had an RBI single during the inning.
OC starter Krystal Rodriguez (3-1) allowed four hits and four runs during her four-inning stint to pick up the pitching win. Lindsy Moore pitched the final three innings for the Lady Eagles, allowing three hits and one run.
Pierce finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including her first-inning home run, while Sarah Peoples went 2-for-4 and scored three runs. Every OC starter had at least one hit.
In the opener, the Lady Eagles outhit the Aggies 14-9 but OC left 10 runners on base and committed seven errors.
Despite their fielding problems, OC was tied 6-6 in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a two-run double to left field by Pierce. The Aggies went back up in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI double by Sonora Zuckerman, but OC answered in the top of the seventh, as Michelle Miller walked and later scored on a two-out error.
Cameron’s Misty Dooley opened the bottom of the seventh with a single off OC reliever Danielle Collins (4-3) and came around to score courtesy of two errors by the Lady Eagles.
Samantha Betts (7-6) pitched a complete game for the Aggies.
Elliott and Pierce each had three hits for OC, while Chatigny, Courtney Starr and Martha Thomas had two hits apiece.
