PRE-SESSION
The Transformational Influence of a Trauma Informed Ministry
A traumatic experience for some Christians or prospective church members can cause them to profoundly question their understanding or beliefs about God. On the other hand, Christianity and spiritual orientation of others who have experienced a traumatic event can be, for them, a source of strength and guidance through the midnight of their trauma (Streets, 2014). During this pre-conference workshop you will learn:
- Foundational aspects about trauma, our physiology, and how to think about these components in relation to your congregation;
- How to distinguish a "therapeutic presence" from basic counseling skills and how this fosters trust;
- How extending trauma-informed practices into educational settings can promote safer learning and better connections.
