Business Bootcamp
COURSE CREDIT
Students that attend Business Bootcamp will earn one hour of credit and will be able to use it in place of the required BUSA-1211 Introduction to Business course. This saves the student from having to take a one credit-hour course during the fall semester.
BUSINESS TOURS
We will divide up the incoming class by major. Each group of students will visit one local business. You will have the opportunity to tour the business and meet with an executive who will introduce you to the company and industry, tell you about what they do, and provide you with insight as you embark on your career in business.
SPECIAL SESSIONS
Throughout the Bootcamp, there will be several special sessions designed to give incoming students the information you need to feel comfortable in OC’s School of Business and to help you get a jump on your business career.
HANDS-ON BUSINESS PROJECT
To introduce you to the different aspects of business, we’ll divide incoming students into teams of 4-5 people. The goal is for you to develop a plan to sell a product or service to members of the campus community (i.e. students, faculty, staff, and alumni). Your product could be t-shirts, coffee mugs, pens, laptop cases, etc.
Teams will work with returning student mentors and faculty consultants to develop their business plan. Teams will then present their business plan to a panel of venture capitalists, members of our Business Advisory Council who are executives with local companies.
This hands-on experience will give you the opportunity to learn about different aspects of business, develop strong relationships with other students, and maybe even make a little money.
COST INCLUDES: HOUSING / FOOD / ACTIVITIES
All meals during bootcamp are provided. You’ll get to sample food from local vendors, which will likely be your go-to places when you skip the The Branch cafeteria and head off campus for meals. Payments can be made by cash or check at the door.
