Security & Access to Campus Facilities

Residence Halls

Oklahoma Christian University offers traditional residence halls that provide campus housing for approximately 1,600 students. The safety and security of these residents, their property and the facility is important to OC. The office of Residence Life manages all OC Residence Hall facilities. Every OC residence hall is staffed by a live-in resident director. A variety of live-in residence assistants and other student staff also work in each campus residence hall facility. All staff members working in Residence Life undergo comprehensive training each year regarding community living environments and how safety and security are a vital part of that environment. All members of Residence Life actively partner with the Campus Police Department to help keep the residence halls as safe as possible.

  • Each residence hall is locked at 12:00 a.m., seven days a week with access being restricted to residents with valid electronic card reader access cards. Residence halls are opened at 6:00 a.m. each morning. Access is allowed at main entrances only. Additionally, evening and night shift desk/lobby customer service staff are on duty at various hours, usually until midnight every day.
  • Outdoor access-only dorms and apartments have individual locks. Some are controlled by key locks and some are controlled by magnetic card readers. Access to residence dorms is restricted to residents, escorted guests of the same sex and university staff. Access to residence apartments is restricted to residents, escorted guests and university staff. Visiting hours to dorms and apartments is over at 12:00 a.m. Campus Police can assist individuals with access needs after hours if Resident Life staff are unavailable.

Safety and security-related presentations are made each fall semester to all campus residence facilities to alert residents to the fact that they are partners in preventing campus crime. Residents are encouraged to always lock their room doors and to alert Residence Life staff and the Campus Police Department if they see or hear anything unusual in or around the residence hall facilities.

Academic and Administrative Buildings

It is the university's policy to lock the doors of buildings that are not in use. When students are working or studying in buildings after normal working hours, however, individual offices will be locked since access to the building may be possible. Students are not to prop doors open since this subjects all occupants to unwanted intrusion.
