Emergency Procedures

Apartments

In Case Of Fire In Your Apartment:

  1. Call OC Campus Police (405.425.5500), 9-911 for emergency and then your phase manager or hall director to alert them.
  2. Use a fire extinguisher to extinguish flames, ONLY if you know how to use the extinguisher. If the fire is out of your control:
  • Evacuate the apartment as soon as possible
  • Notify apartments on both sides of your apartment and below or above you.
  • Leave the area.
  • Notify Campus Police of where you are.

In Case Of Full Phase Evacuation:

  1. Don't worry about your belongings - leave immediately, on foot.
  2. Make sure everyone is out of your apartment.
  3. Close and lock the door behind you.
  4. Meet at the Gaylord University Center on the OC campus.

Tornado:

  1. Stay alert and informed during a tornado watch. If available, use your i-device and watch for 'OC Notify' notifications.
  2. Take shelter during a tornado warning (news advisories or sirens).
  3. Seek the lowest level (second floor, move to the nearest lower level apartment that is available).
  4. Move to the most central room of the apartment (no windows, probably one of the bathrooms).
  5. During a warning, take one of two positions - the preferred position is kneeling with your head
between your knees facing the wall; the other is seated on the floor with your back to the wall.
In either position, you should be as low as possible to reduce the potential for injury from glass or
    flying debris.
  6. Take cover under a mattress or other padded covering.
  7. Do not open exterior doors.
