Alumni Update - Shannon Houtrouw
Shannon Houtrouw ('84) was named one of the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program's "distinguished teachers," which is a national award. Houtrouw is a computer science teacher at Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center (KAMSC). Previously, he taught for four years at Harding University, and then for three years at Michigan Christian College (now Rochester University). He has been teaching coding since 1989, and his students have been internationally recognized for their coding skills. Houtrouw is currently tackling the challenge of rejuvenating the KAMSC coding program, after most of the coding competitions were canceled throughout the pandemic.
