Alumni Update - Amy Raymond

Amy Raymond (Greene '97) passed away on May 9, 2021, at age 45. Amy was a veteran editor at The Oklahoman. She started as a staff writer, but her true passion became apparent as she made her way up the ladder as a copy editor, page designer, and then as night news editor.

For years, Amy helped coordinate The Oklahoman's long-running Newsroom 101 program in which reporters volunteered their time mentoring area school kids interested in careers in journalism. She also worked to improve coverage of our Hispanic community and edited The Oklahoman's Viva Oklahoma publications.

"Amy was a brilliant and efficient coworker, the smartest of us all," her co-worker Clytie Bunyan said. "No challenge was too difficult for her to plow through. She touched the lives of everyone in this newsroom in some way and saved us from ourselves on many occasions. But it's her compassion and friendship that I'll miss most."

You can read the rest of her colleague Steve Lackmeyer's touching tribute in The Oklahoman here.
