Student Scholarship Opportunities
The department offers a variety of scholarships and other opportunities to help finance the cost of an undergraduate education including:
1. The Rose Taylor Scholarship is awarded to returning students who are majors in the department and who are selected by faculty for academic performance, leadership and other qualities of outstanding students. Reach out to Kathy Fuller at kathy.fuller@oc.edu for information on how to apply.
2. Writing Center tutors may be paid from Work Study funds or through regular salary lines. Positions are limited and available to students through applications with Nathan Shank, Writing Center director.
3. All majors should complete the Work Study application process to be considered for a variety of departmental positions, including Writing Center tutors, office assistants or other positions.
4. Soundings editors are eligible for a scholarship offered each year through an endowed fund established by L&L faculty, alumni and friends.
Spanish Major Scholarship
Awarded to a Spanish or Vocational Spanish Major
Amount: $1,000 per academic year for three years, possibly a fourth year, funding permitting
Requirements: Any student choosing to major in Spanish at OC who has taken two years of high school Spanish or the equivalent is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Once the scholarship is awarded, the student will need to maintain a 2.5 GPA in Spanish classes and remain in good standing per university academic policy in order to retain the scholarship.
The scholarship recipient is selected by the Language and Literature Program Chair, the Spanish professor and approved by the Office of Financial Services.

Roaring Lambs Scholarship
The Roaring Lambs Scholarship seeks to inspire, recognize, enable, and reward OC English majors who aspire to excellence in writing or publishing. Awards will be made each year by the scholarship committee consisting of the Language & Literature program chair, the faculty sponsor for Soundings, and OC's Director for Financial Services. Student recipients must maintain good, academic standing, as defined in the OC Academic Catalogue, in order to continue receiving funds from this scholarship endowment.
