Student Scholarship Opportunities
The department offers a variety of scholarships and other opportunities to help finance the cost of an undergraduate education including:
1. The Rose Taylor Scholarship is awarded to returning students who are majors in the department and who are selected by faculty for academic performance, leadership and other qualities of outstanding students.
2. Writing Center tutors may be paid from Work Study funds or through regular salary lines. Positions are limited and available to students through applications with Nathan Shank, Writing Center director.
3. All majors should complete the Work Study application process to be considered for a variety of departmental positions, including Writing Center tutors, office assistants or other positions.
4. Soundings editors are eligible for a scholarship offered each year through an endowed fund established by L&L faculty, alumni and friends.

The Charles and Sylvia Branch Scholarship
The Charles and Sylvia Branch Scholarship endowment is designed to provide annual financial scholarship awards to one or more full time college students at OC. Qualified recipients must be students in good academic standing majoring in either a science or English related discipline, and must also maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 equivalent scale. Preference will be given to students hailing from the San Antonio, Texas area. Further preference will be given to qualified applicants who have demonstrable financial need.
Spanish Major Scholarship
Any student choosing to major in Spanish at OC who has taken 2 years of high school Spanish or the equivalent is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Once the scholarship is awarded, the student will need to maintain a 2.5 GPA in Spanish classes and remain in good standing per university academic policy in order to retain the scholarship.
The scholarship recipient is selected by the Language and Literature Program Chair, the Spanish professor and approved by the office of Financial Services.
Scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 per year for at least 3 years.
