  • GPA >= 2.85
  • Recipients must live on campus

As a student in this area you are eligible to opt-in to this scholarship! You do, however, need to choose between this scholarship and the traditional award package you were offered for your time at OC. This program does not prevent the use of Federal Student Aid. Below is a detailed look at this scholarship and how it differs from your traditional award package. On we go!

Here’s an example of what the Health Sciences Powerhouse Scholarship might look like over a four-year OC experience:

  1. Year 1: 35% (at 2024-2025 tuition costs this would equate to $9,030)
  2. Year 2: 50% (at 2024-2025 tuition costs this would equate to $12,900)
  3. Year 3: 65% (at 2024-2025 tuition costs this would equate to $16,770)
  4. Year 4: 80% (at 2024-2025 tuition costs this would equate to $20,640)

Standard Merit Scholarships are flat amounts and do not increase over time.

Example: if you receive the President’s Scholarship at $10,000 per year, that’s a total of $40,000 you can apply towards tuition over four years. Not a bad deal! However, the Powerhouse Scholarship, while perhaps less in the first year of school (depending on your merit award), will net you more assistance over a four-year period ($40,000 vs an estimated $59,340 at 2024-25 tuition costs) if the merit scholarship is your only financial aid.

As a reminder: all Powerhouse recipients must live on campus and maintain a 2.5 cumulative college GPA to continue to receive the award.

You get to decide what will net you the best assistance over the four-year period!

If you have more specific questions with regard to your individual financial aid package or how to opt into this scholarship, your Admission Counselor and Financial Aid Counselor are ready to help answer those questions. We’d love to hear from you!
