The Life of Medical Laboratory Scientist

Medical laboratory scientists perform tests that are essential for the management of anemia, leukemia, and coagulation disorders.

Chemical tests are performed measuring proteins, enzymes, hormones, electrolytes, and other essential metabolites in the blood plasma. Work in a blood bank and perform tests that determine if blood is compatible with transfusion.

Scientists in microbiology labs isolate and identify disease-causing bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Similarly, the immunology lab evaluates a patient’s ability to respond to disease and measures antibodies that can indicate infection or immunity.

As a medical laboratory science major, you will take fascinating courses like hemostasis, urinalysis, clinical chemistry and laboratory management.
