Human Development and Family Science (B.S.)

The B.S. degree in Human Development and Family Science is a pre-professional degree that emphasizes preparation for graduate school through a strong general education in the field of Human Development and Family Science. The degree offers a broad study of the family preparing students for a variety of graduate opportunities including Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Child Life Specialty and more.

An OC graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Science will:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the dynamic nature of the family and of the conceptual framework on which current family relations theories are based.
  2. Exhibit professional development in the research field by completing a research project or family life education program with opportunity to present at a state-level conference.
  3. Demonstrate a knowledge of various cultures and family structure types in our society.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of career opportunities applicable to Human Development and Family Science majors on the bachelor and graduate degree level.
  5. Gain admission to a graduate school, if desired, commensurate with GPA and/or GRE scores.
  6. Demonstrate spiritual development and service to the church.
  7. Develop an international perspective that encourages tolerance and appreciation of individual differences.

Students must complete a minimum of 122 hours including the major, core, and minor if required. Elective hours may be needed to reach 122 hours.
