Baseball team advances to conference championship game

Thanks to 4-1 victories over Lubbock Christian and St. Mary’s, the OC baseball team advanced to the championship round of the Heartland Conference tournament before falling to St. Edward’s.

The Eagles placed third in the Heartland during the regular season before making their tournament run. OC finished 30-22 overall.

Seven Oklahoma Christian baseball players were named to the All-Heartland Conference teams, led by first-team center fielder Derek Jones, who also landed on the Heartland Gold Glove team for his defensive prowess.

The six Eagles on the Heartland second-team list were pitchers Brennan Walker and Jake Moore, outfielders Kyle Lacy and Robert Rosser, first baseman Jake Baxter and third baseman Ben McKenzie, who was listed as a utility player.

McKenzie also received second-team All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

“Ben was the heart and soul of our team this season,” OC coach Lonny Cobble said. “He is well deserving of this honor.”
