ETHOS is a Greek word meaning “the distinguishing character or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution.”
Spiritual life is at the core of the OC experience. With our ETHOS model for Spiritual Life, students can use their gifts and talents to grow in faith, glorify God, and serve others.
In addition to daily Chapel services, ETHOS provides students other ways to meet their Spiritual Life requirements while living out the greatest commandments, shared by Jesus in Mark 12:30-31:
- “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
- “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
ETHOS encourages students to practice spiritual disciplines in five dimensions – Community, Discipleship, Discovery, Servanthood, and Worship – while allowing space for the Holy Spirit to work, wherever students may be on the pathway of faith.
Spiritual formation happens over time ... day-by-day, week-by-week, and year-by-year. ETHOS challenges students to be active and interactive as they serve, learn, and worship in community.
