Long Term Exchange

To experience cultures in a whole new way by living and working in them -- not just passing through -- OC's one and two semester long exchange programs are the way to go!

Ibaraki Exchange Program

For over 35 years, Oklahoma Christian University and Ibaraki Christian University in Hitachi City, Japan have had an exchange relationship. OC offers two different opportunities for OC students to study on the Ibaraki Christian (IC) campus as well as opportunity to get to know IC students on the OC campus.

Each year a smaller group of students (usually 2 to 4) spends eight months (from May until December) living in Hitachi City and studying at IC on the long-term exchange program. Students on the Ibaraki Long-Term Exchange Program complete two semesters of classes including Bible, Japanese language, and Intercultural Communication courses.

While in Japan, students will have the opportunity to get to know Japanese culture through experiences with Japanese people, customs, housing, food, education, and travel. Ibaraki Christian University is located in Ibaraki Prefecture. A 20 minute train ride north will reach Mito City, Ibaraki’s largest city, and a 2 hour train ride south will reach Tokyo. Students will live in their own apartments having the opportunity to get to know their landlord, their neighbors in the apartment complex, and the neighboring community. Beaches, shopping, convenience stores, and IC are all within a short walking distance of the apartment hub.

Korean Christian Exchange Program

For those who wish to experience less-explored territory, the long-term exchange program to Korea Christian University (KCU) may be more appealing. Whereas OC’s relationship with Ibaraki Christian University spans decades back to the 1970s, OC’s relationship with Korea Christian University has just begun.

Spend the fall semester in exciting Seoul, Korea studying at KCU.  Get a full semester of OC credit.  Classes may include Korean language (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), Bible, TEFL methods and teaching and culture.  Students also have the opportunity to get involved in the English speaking church that meets on campus or one of the Korean local churches.  Students live in an on-campus dorm with up to 2 roommates.  Exhange students are encouraged to get involved with as many on-campus activities as possible.

Korea Chrisitian University is located in the South Korean capital of Seoul.  Even though the city has over 10 million people the area around the KCU campus can easily feel like home.  Public transportation located near the campus can transport you to many different historical and cultural sites found in this leading global city.
