Your Roommate and Room Assignment
You will be able to view your housing assignment and roommate information on your MyOC account beginning the second week of December.
We understand that living with a person, who is totally new to you or even an old friend, is an opportunity to build a rewarding relationship and make great memories through the year. Like any relationship, successful coexisting with your roommate relies on communication and respect.
While a rewarding relationship is our hope for all students, we understand conflict can arise. If at some point conflict does arise between you and your roommate, please know your Resident Director is available to assist. As much as is possible, the RD will encourage students to collaboratively work through roommate differences before resorting to student relocation.
If you and your roommate have discussed the issue(s) in person (not via text messaging or social media) and/or asked for assistance from your RD, but find you are unable to make it work, you can request to move. Please note, a move is dependent on space availability and left to the discretion of the Resident Director. We ask that no moves happen during the first two weeks of classes.
Your First Week
Mandatory Hall/Apartment Meetings
Along with getting settled into your home on campus, every residence hall and apartment has their own Mandatory All-Hall Meeting to kick off the new year. These meetings provide a personal setting for you to connect with other students in your area as well as with the Residence Life staff members. The agenda for these meeting is to 1). Welcome you to OC; 2). Ensure you feel at home and know who to contact should you have an issue; 3). Review Residence Hall or Apartment rules and regulations; and 4). Inform you of upcoming events and housing highlights. Your Residence Life staff will communicate times and locations for meetings during the first week of school.
Living on campus provides a unique opportunity to be an active and responsible member of the OC community. As a resident, you are afforded certain rights and privileges. At the same time, you are expected to abide by community standards. The Student Handbook has established policies and procedures that help maintain a high standard of living. Whether you are new, or need a re-fresh, during your first week is a great time to look over the Student Handbook.
