Fitness Challenge

The TeamOC Fitness Challenge promotes a healthy lifestyle and aims to provide participants with the tools they need to make a lifestyle change for the better.

Applications are open to OC Students and Employees.

Participants agree to meet one or more of the following 4 categories over a 12 week program and are given a bonus week:

  1. 18 Weekly Challenges over the 13 weeks:
    • 12 Fitness or Nutrition focused and 6 from our new category, Mind and Spirit.
    • Here is a list of ideas for all 3 categories. This list is still in progress: Challenge List
    • Fitness & Nutrition:
      • A new challenge is to have your measurements taken in week 1 and week 12 (or 13).
        • Monday Jan 8th, 8:30am - 10:30am in the Dub office.
        • Thursday Jan 11th, 3:30pm-5:30pm
        • Week 12 times will be announced in week 11.
    • Mind and Spirit:
      • Challenges could be daily scripture reading, prayer journalling or just taking time to be still and clear your head daily.
    • Bonus. Challenges that can fall into multiple categories
      • Count toward the most appropriate category
      • Lunch and Learns
        • Self-Defense - Sherry Klein - February 8th, 12pm-1pm - Location: PAC 202
          • Event closed
        • Cooking Class - Kristi Finefrock - March 8th, 12pm - 1pm - MRCC Summit Kitchen - 20 people max
          • Event closed
        • Relaxation and Mindfulness practices - Tina Winn - April 3rd, 12pm - 1pm - DAH 210
  2. 5 hours of fitness each week
  3. 1 hour of provided group training each week
  4. Achieve a daily step goal of 8,000, or 56,000 weekly.
    • BYO pedometer device (Smartphone App / VivoFit etc) and self reported
      • If you do not have access to a pedometer let us know and we will try to help you find a loaner for the semester.

All 4 categories are averaged over the 13 weeks of the Challenge.

Other opportunities are also available to the participants such as Lunch and Learns, discounted entry to TeamOC events such as the Choose Your K, Worth A Tri and a final reception.

We recommend that you find an accountability partner that can encourage you on this journey. That might be someone else who wants to go on this journey with you. Talk to your co-workers and see if this is something you could do together or even as an office!

There is no fee for OC Employees to participate in the Fitness Challenge. An OC Employees' 'non-OC employee' spouse, child (16+) or a friend can join you for a fee of $20.
