OKLAHOMA CITY (March 25, 2013) – After leading No. 10 Oklahoma Christian to a dramatic win at No. 3 Lynn (Fla.), Bruno Tiberti was named Monday as the Heartland Conference men’s tennis player of the week.
Tiberti, a junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who plays at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Eagles, went 4-0 last week against top-shelf competition.
On Tuesday, he led OC to an 8-1 win over NAIA No. 24 St. Thomas (Fla.), beating Nicolas Etienne 6-3, 6-1 in singles and teaming with Martin Poboril to beat Etienne and Arturo Romero 8-1 in doubles.
Tiberti also scored two critical team points on Thursday as the Eagles beat Division II No. 3 Lynn 5-4, downing No. 4-ranked Willi Wolfer 6-0, 6-3 in singles after teaming with Poboril for a dramatic 9-7 win over Wolfer and Vlad Cirla, who are ranked No. 4 nationally in doubles.
Tiberti, ranked 41st in singles and eighth in doubles, figures to move up later this week when the new Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings are released on Wednesday.
He is the fourth OC player to win the Heartland player-of-the-week honor this season, joining Martin Poboril, Julio Pulido and Nicolas Auruccio. Pulido has won the award twice.
