OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 8, 2012) – The talent level runs deep on Oklahoma Christian’s men’s cross country squad, as Nick Stoots proved Saturday with a strong showing in the Bison Invitational.
On Monday, the Heartland Conference honored Stoots’ effort by naming him as its runner of the week, making Stoots the third OC runner this season to receive the league’s weekly award. It’s the first time in his career with the Eagles that Stoots has been so honored.
Stoots also kept alive what is fast becoming an impressive streak – OC runners have captured the Heartland Conference weekly award after each of the four meets in which the Eagles have competed this season.
The junior from San Antonio finished 21st among 109 competitors on Saturday in the Bison Invitational in Shawnee with a career-best eight-kilometer time of 26:20. Stoots took the conference award despite the fact that OC didn’t field a complete team in the event
Stoots’ teammate, Geoffrey Njonjo, began OC’s Heartland award streak after winning the Central Oklahoma Land Run on Sept. 8. The Eagles’ Roberto Diaz took the honor after leading OC in the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sept. 15 and Njonjo won it a second time after pacing the Eagles in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 29.
