Sprinters lead Lady Eagles on opening night at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. (Feb. 1, 2013) – Sprinters Maegan Cowan, Rebecca Bloodworth and Andrea Dennis led the way for Oklahoma Christian on the opening night of the Missouri Southern Lion Invite on Friday with top-20 finishes in the 200 meters.

Cowan and Bloodworth were 17th and 18th, respectively, both finishing in a time of 27.32 seconds. Bloodworth, a freshman from Happy, Texas, won her heat. Dennis was .01 behind her teammates, taking 19th in the 48-woman field.

Two other OC sprinters also ran in the race, with Somer Helms 38th in 28.03 seconds and Wilmina Gley 39th in 28.30 seconds.

Two other OC student-athletes saw action Friday. Katie Ostlund was 22nd of 30 in the weight throw with a mark of 40 feet, ½ inch (12.20 meters), while Sarah DiBiasi competed in the indoor pentathlon, which consists of the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters.

DiBiasi posted a score of 2,438 points, good for sixth among eight competitors. She finished third in the long jump (15 feet, 6¼ inches or 4.73 meters) and 800 meters (2:43.68).

The meet will continue on Saturday.
