OC social clubs and the freshman class are ready to break a leg after preparing for the 47th-annual Spring Sing show since January. They will finally compete for the trophy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
There’s much to be said for the feeling of accomplishment – hours upon hours of learning songs, working out choreography, nailing harmonies.
Longtime fans of OC Spring Sing may encounter a few surprises this year. Clubs like Kappa Sigma Tau and Delta Gamma Sigma are breaking from some of their traditional choreography to bring something new to their shows. Kappa is excited to feature some moves that have never been used before in any Spring Sing routine.
Along with some new moves, most clubs will keep with tradition and incorporate their signature moves. Theta Theta Theta is even bringing back an old tradition that has been missing from their show for a few years.
This year’s performance will feature more than 600 students, the largest group to ever take the OC Spring Sing stage. The audience will see a few traditionally small clubs take the stage in notably larger numbers.
Even with new variety incorporated into the show, many Spring Sing participants look forward to carrying on an iconic OC tradition. To the executive staff, Spring Sing is special because of the way it delivers on OC’s promise to be different.
“We are called to a higher standard. We want people to be able to come here and see that we’re different from what’s out there on TV, and that we’re having fun,” staff advisor Amanda Watson said.
Reece Kingcade, band and vocal director, said Spring Sing is the perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to be involved in campus life, no matter what their skills are.
“I’ve made some of my best friends here; we spend hours putting this stuff together and working hard,” he said. “That’s the impact for me. I’ve been able to establish and continue relationships working on Spring Sing.”
