OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 20, 2013) – Registration is underway for the fifth annual Holiday Hustle, a five-kilometer race that benefits the Oklahoma Christian women’s and men’s cross country teams and the university’s TeamOC Fitness and Wellness Program.
The annual race is set for Dec. 7 on the OC campus. The Holiday Hustle, under the direction of former OC cross country coach Mark Thompson, and his wife, OC Director of Wellness Darci Thompson, is designed for all types of runners – from those who are elite-level competitors to those who are trying to run a 5K race for the first time.
Prize money will be awarded to the top overall runners and gift cards will be presented to age-group winners. After the 5K race, there will be a run for children ages 4 to 9 that will start and finish at the Lawson Commons on OC’s campus.
The 5K race – run on a U.S.A. Track and Field-certified course that Mark Thompson described as fast and flat – will start at 9 a.m., with the 540-meter kids’ run at 9:50 a.m. A pancake breakfast will follow.
The 5K course will change somewhat this year. While the traditional start and finish will stay in the heart of the OC campus, the course will use most of the brand new 2.5-mile Eagle Trail that snakes around the campus.
Event sponsors include the OC Student Government Association, United Dining, Sonic, Wedel Rahill and Associates, Heritage College Massage, Forrester Brothers Roofing and Construction, Elite Feet, OK Runner, Stonebridge Eye Care and Tinker Federal Credit Union.
"We want to support the sport of distance running in central Oklahoma on every level,” Mark Thompson said. “Races should be both competitive and loads of fun and should be a celebration of hard work and the God-given ability to run.”
Registration forms can be found at www.oc.edu/holidayhustle . Early registration runs through Dec. 1 and late registration will continue through Dec. 5. Race-day registration also is available.
