OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 21, 2013) – Members of Oklahoma Christian’s cross country teams spent part of Wednesday volunteering at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

It’s the second straight year that the Eagles and Lady Eagles have spent time sorting food at the Food Bank, which distributes the food to needy Oklahomans in 53 counties in the western and central parts of the state.

OC coach Wade Miller said he and his 10 runners sorted 7,204 pounds of food, the equivalent of 6,004 meals.

"Because it is such a busy time of year we had a few conflicts and the whole team wasn't able to go to the Food Bank, but we had a great learning experience,” Miller said. “We worked specifically with the Food for Kids program and packed bags for school children to take home over the weekend when they don't have the benefit of a school lunch.

“It was humbling to hear the staff give statistics about how much of a difference an afternoon of volunteering or a small donation can make.”
