OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 11, 2013) – A strong showing in a season-opening doubleheader led to an Oklahoma Christian sweep of the Heartland Conference weekly softball awards on Monday.

Shortstop Kendra Pierce was named as the conference’s hitter of the week, while Taylor Mosher picked up the pitcher of the week honor.

Pierce is a sophomore from Oklahoma City who starred at Westmoore High School. In a 12-0, 20-2 sweep at Southwestern Christian on Saturday, she slammed four doubles and had 10 RBIs. She went 7-of-10 from the plate (including 5-for-5 in the second game), scored four runs and finished the doubleheader with a gaudy 1.100 slugging percentage. She also played error-free softball in the field.

Mosher, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, tossed a complete-game one-hitter in the 20-2 win, striking out six Southwestern Christian batters.

Before Monday, no OC softball player had been named as a conference pitcher or hitter of the week since March 2010, when Davee Croy received the honor from the Sooner Athletic Conference.
