CHELTENHAM, Victoria, Australia (Dec. 14, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian junior golfer Catherine Odgers posted a solid 5-over-par 79 on Friday in the opening round of the Port Phillip Open Amateur in her native country.

The 72-hole tournament serves as a qualifier for the Victorian Amateur Championship, an event roughly equivalent to a state amateur tournament in the U.S. Odgers is tied for 16th in the 42-woman field after her round at Kingston Heath Golf Club, which hosted the Australian Masters men’s tournament earlier this year.

The top 26 players after Saturday’s second round will advance to the tournament’s final two rounds on Sunday, and the top 16 finishers will move on to the match-play championship, which will start Monday.

Odgers tied for sixth and earned National Christian College Athletic Association All-America honors in October during the NCCAA Invitational in Panama City Beach, Fla.
