SKILLMAN, N.J. (March 20, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s Barbora Bozkova was ranked No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings, which were released Wednesday.
Bozkova, a junior from Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, is 8-1 this season. She achieved the No. 1 regional ranking in large part thanks to her 6-1, 6-7, 10-5 win over one of Division II’s top players, Julie Mongin of Abilene Christian (Texas), early this season.
Mongin entered the season ranked No. 5 nationally and was a three-time regional champion. She was ranked No. 2 in the newest regional rankings.
One other OC player cracked the first regional rankings of the regular season – Gisela Castany, who was No. 12. Castany has a 7-2 singles record this season.
As a doubles duo, Bozkova and Angie Torres Quezada were ranked second regionally, behind ACU’s Mongin and Brittney Reed. Bozkova’s current doubles partner is Castany, while Torres Quezada now is paired with Rebeca Aguilar Dominguez.
In the regional team rankings, OC (7-3) jumped five spots from last month’s rankings and was No. 4, making the Lady Eagles the highest-ranked Heartland Conference team. OC is ranked behind three Lone Star Conference teams – Abilene Christian, Tarleton State (Texas) and Cameron.
The ITA’s national Division II rankings will be released next Wednesday.
