O’Steen takes NCCAA women’s basketball weekly honor for 2nd time
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 12, 2013) – On the eve of the National Christian College Athletic Association Championship, Oklahoma Christian center Katy O’Steen has picked up yet another honor.
O’Steen was named Tuesday as the NCCAA women’s basketball student-athlete of the week after leading the Lady Eagles to the NCCAA Central Region title last week in Bartlesville, their first postseason title since 1986.
In wins over Ecclesia (Ark.), McMurry (Texas) and Southern Nazarene, the 6-foot-1 senior from Durant averaged 13.3 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 40 percent from the field (14 of 35) and 91.7 percent from the free-throw line (11 of 12).
She recorded a double-double – her fifth of the season – with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 73-64 win over SNU in the regional title game.
It’s the second time this season that O’Steen has received the NCCAA weekly honor. She also was honored in late January.
O’Steen will lead OC (19-11) against Cedarville (Ohio) on Wednesday morning in the first round of the NCCAA Championship in Winona Lake, Ind.
O’Steen was one of a record four OC student-athletes to receive an NCCAA student-athlete of the week honor Tuesday, joining Morgan Dockery (women’s golf), Sam Johnston (men’s golf) and Will Reinke (men’s basketball).
