WINONA LAKE, Ind. (March 17, 2013) – Add “first-team All-American” to Katy O’Steen’s list of college basketball honors.

The National Christian College Athletic Association named Oklahoma Christian’s center to its first-team honor list during the just-completed NCCAA Championship. She was presented with the award after OC’s loss to Union (Tenn.) in Saturday’s third-place game.

O’Steen, a senior from Durant, is only the fifth OC women’s player to receive first-team All-America honors. She joins a Who’s Who list of Lady Eagle basketball – Pam Kelly (1988), Sarah Reese (2002), Lauren Decker (2006) and Rachel Martin (2007), who all received their honors from the NAIA when OC was a member of that organization.

“I think the world of Katy and I’m so glad that she received this honor,” OC coach Stephanie Findley said. “It is well-deserved. She worked hard every day to become a better player and that really paid off for both her and her team this season.”

O’Steen averaged 15.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 83.0 percent from the free-throw line for OC, which finished 20-13, won the NCCAA Central Region title (beating eventual national champion Southern Nazarene to do so) and took fourth place in the NCCAA national tournament.

Her 1,426 career points place her 11th OC’s all-time scoring list. She’s one of only 14 OC players ever to score at least 500 points in a single season, having finished this season with 501 points.

O’Steen earlier had been named as the NCCAA Central Region player of the year and as a first-team All-Heartland Conference selection in OC’s first year of membership in the NCAA Division II league. She was a two-time Heartland player of the week and twice received NCCAA student-athlete of the week honors.

She twice received honorable mention on the All-Sooner Athletic Conference honor list, as a sophomore and junior.
