OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 12, 2012) – A career-high scoring effort in a win over Southeastern Oklahoma State led to a Heartland Conference honor for Oklahoma Christian’s Katy O’Steen on Monday.
The 6-foot-1 senior from Durant was named as the league’s women’s basketball player of the week, making her OC’s first hoops honoree since joining the Heartland Conference. OC was shut out of weekly awards last season while a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference.
O’Steen scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds and added two assists, two steals and a blocked shot in the 99-77 win over Southeastern in just 19 minutes of action. She went 13-of-13 from the free-throw line against the Savage Storm, capping a week during which she made all 18 of her free-throw attempts.
In a 98-73 win over Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday, O’Steen scored 13 points in 19 minutes of playing time and added two rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
OC (3-0) will visit longtime archrival Southern Nazarene (1-0) on Tuesday night.
