NCCAA names Arrese Cortadellas as national student-athlete of week
OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 2, 2012) – Yet another Oklahoma Christian student-athlete has received a national honor from the NCCAA.
Anna Arrese Cortadellas was named Tuesday as the NCCAA women’s golf student-athlete of the week. She’s the third OC student-athlete to win a weekly honor from the NCCAA this fall, joining men’s soccer player Sam Guernsey and men’s golfer Sam Johnston.
It’s the third time Arrese Cortadellas, a sophomore from Barcelona, has won a national player-of-the-week honor. As a freshman, she twice was named as the NAIA’s women’s golfer of the week.
Arrese Cortadellas tied for medalist honors last week in the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational, played on the par-72, 6,000-yard Heritage course at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Her first-round 70 was the second-lowest score of the tournament and the lowest recorded this fall by a Heartland Conference player in any event. She fired an even-par 72 in the second round to win top individual honors in a collegiate tournament for the third time.
Arrese Cortadellas led OC to a runner-up finish in the 17-team event, behind only tournament host Grand Canyon (Ariz.), which finished third in NCAA Division II in 2012.
The NCCAA award was announced while she was competing Tuesday in the final round of the RCB Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s East Course. She also was the medalist in that tournament.
She was named as the Heartland Conference’s player of the week last Wednesday in recognition of her outing at the Arizona tournament.
