SHAWNEE, Okla. (Oct. 6, 2012) – Running solo in a field of 101 runners, Oklahoma Christian freshman Tara Lewis posted a career-best finish on a cold Saturday morning in the Bison Invitational.
Lewis, from Edmond, finished fifth, covering the five-kilometer course in 18:42. Hannah Helker of race host Oklahoma Baptist won the race in 17:10.
It was the second time in her four collegiate meets that Lewis posted a top-10 individual finish and her time Saturday was her fastest of the season, 31 seconds better than her previous best in the Central Oklahoma Land Run on Sept. 8.
OC coach Wade Miller chose not to run his entire six-woman squad in the race, choosing to give the rest of the Lady Eagles the week off before racing next Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
