EMPORIA, Kan. (April 6, 2013) – Four Oklahoma Christian runners finished in the top 12 in the 5,000 meters and Renaldo Garrett was 10th in the 110-meter hurdles, leading the Eagles in the Emporia State Relays on Saturday.
OC sophomore Roberto Diaz was second in the 5,000 meters in 14:48.25, just behind the winner, Alex Henee of Fort Hays State (Kan.), who finished in 14:47.05. OC senior David McWilliams took sixth in 15:15.83, freshman Timothy Zuercher was ninth in 15:28.43 and freshman Bryant Keirns was 12th in the 35-man field with a time of 15:47.62.
McWilliams, Zuercher and Keirns joined Diaz in posting qualifying times for the National Christian College Athletic Association Outdoor Championships in the event. OC senior Geoffrey Njonjo also has qualified for the national meet in the 5,000.
Garrett was 10th among 37 competitors in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.21 seconds. He had already qualified for nationals in the event. Winston Ogletree was 17th among 36 runners in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a season-best time of 57.36 seconds.
David Koistinen led OC in the 800 meters, as his time of 2:00.22 was good for a 31st-place finish in the 78-man field.
In the field events, Larry Brown was 10th among 37 competitors in the hammer with a mark of 156 feet, 9 inches (47.79 meters). In the unseeded discus competition, Nathaniel Donley finished fifth among 21 throwers at 129 feet, 2 inches (39.38 meters).
Freshman Austin Wallace posted a national qualifying mark in the javelin with a throw of 148 feet, 6 inches (45.27 meters). He finished 25th among 32 competitors.
