Lady Eagles win road match against Heartland foe Arkansas-Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. (Feb. 15, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s success at the upper positions in its lineup lifted the Lady Eagles past Arkansas-Fort Smith 6-3 on Friday afternoon at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.

It was the second win this season for OC (4-1) over a Heartland Conference foe. The Lady Eagles opened the season with a win over McMurry (Texas).

The Lady Eagles took a 2-1 lead over UAFS (4-3) in the doubles portion of the match. OC’s Barbora Bozkova and Gisela Castany were pushed a bit at the No. 1 position but beat Amy Belanger and Madison Carr 8-4. OC’s No. 2 duo of Maryfer Abreu Roman and Gabriela Carrillo beat Taylor Price and Abby Thompson 8-1.

Masa Podunavac and Whitney Hobson gave the Lions their only doubles win at No. 3, beating OC’s Angie Torres Quezada and Rebeca Aguilar Dominguez 8-1.

OC received straight-set singles wins from Bozkova at No. 1, Castany at No. 2, Abreu Roman at No. 3 and Carrillo at No. 4 to clinch the match win. Bozkova overwhelmed Podunavac 6-3, 6-0, while Abreu Roman and Carrillo posted identical 6-3, 6-1 wins over Belanger and Carr, respectively. Castany downed Price 6-2, 6-4.

Abby Thompson knocked off Torres Quezada 10-5 in a super tiebreaker to give UAFS a point from the No. 5 singles match and Hobson beat Aguilar Dominguez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Lady Eagles will have a 15-day layoff before their next match, on March 2 at Midwestern State (Texas).
