Lady Eagles outshoot McMurry but fall 3-1

ABILENE, Texas (Oct. 6, 2012) – McMurry (Texas) goalkeeper Shelby Sova made 11 saves, helping her team overcome a sizable shot deficit and beat Oklahoma Christian 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Edwards Field.

OC (1-9) outshot the War Hawks 18-9 but fell behind 2-0 and couldn’t rally in its first meeting against one of its new Heartland Conference rivals.

Aleria Luna and Savannah Whitaker each had a goal and an assist for McMurry (3-6-1), while Callie White scored her first goal of the season for the Lady Eagles.

McMurry seized the momentum just before halftime on a goal in the 42nd minute by Holliday Williams, on which Whitaker assisted. The War Hawks went ahead 2-0 in the 54th minute, with Destin Connally assisting on a goal by Luna.

White pulled OC within 2-1 in the 63rd minute, but Whitaker took an assist from Luna and scored in the 72nd minute, sealing the win for the War Hawks.

OC goalkeeper Lindsey Williams made three saves.

The Lady Eagles will be off until next Saturday, when they will play at conference leader St. Edward’s (Texas). That will be OC’s final road game, as the Lady Eagles will close the season with five straight home games.
