FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Oct. 5, 2013) – Layne Hammer posted a top-50 finish among college division runners to lead Oklahoma Christian to a 19th-place finish on Saturday in the Chile Pepper Festival, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Hammer finished the 5,000-meter race on a wet course in 19:31.3, good for 49th among the 203 women in the college division. It was the fourth time in as many races this season that she’s been the top finisher for the Lady Eagles.
OC – competing without one of its best runners, Tara Lewis – posted a team score of 501 and finished ahead of five teams.
Maci Rich was the Lady Eagles’ second finisher, taking 114th in 20:55.5, and Katie Jones was just a few steps behind, finishing 116th in 20:58.2.
Other OC runners included Maria Sargent, who was 156th in 21:40.7; Sarah Cobb, who was 168th in 22:08.8; and Tavia Hoheisel, who was 176th in 22:26.5.
“Layne had a great race and we had a good group following not too far behind,” OC coach Wade Miller said. “We still have work to do before the conference meet and nationals.”
