BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 15, 2013) – Southern Nazarene jumped on Oklahoma Christian for five first-inning runs and the Crimson Storm eventually won 13-2 in five innings in a softball game Friday in the 7-State Classic.

Later Friday, OC (4-2) dropped its second game of the event, 1-0 to Missouri Southern.

Kacey Acker’s three-run home run keyed the quick start for SNU. OC starter Lindsy Moore (1-1) allowed eight hits and seven runs in three innings, while her SNU counterpart, Jeneva Nelson (1-1), gave up six hits, walked three and struck out four while going the distance.

OC scored in the fourth inning, with Lauren Chatigny reaching on an error and scoring on a groundout by Sarah Peoples. The Lady Eagles pulled within 7-2 in the top of the fifth after Martha Thomas singled to lead off and scored on a single by Monique Elliott.

SNU (3-3) answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Jessica Valdez hit a two-run double and Kaytie Spencer hit a grand slam off OC reliever Krystal Rodriguez, ending the game due to the 10-run rule.

In the second game, Missouri Southern’s Shelby Romines hit a two-out homer in the top of the first inning and pitcher Hannah Cooke made that run stand up for the Lions (5-1).

Cooke (1-0) allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four in going the distance and outdueling OC pitcher Taylor Mosher (2-1), who threw a complete-game seven-hitter.

OC will play Northwest Missouri State and event host Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday.
