OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 20, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian held its own for most of the afternoon but eventually lost 3-0 to visiting Texas A&M International on Saturday.
Coming off a win over St. Mary’s (Texas), OC’s offensive improvement continued to be apparent, as TAMIU (10-3-1) outshot the Lady Eagles by only a 15-11 margin. But the Dustdevils took the lead 10 minutes before halftime and used two goals less than three minutes apart in the second half to seal their win.
OC (2-11) battled TAMIU on even terms for the first 35 minutes before Kim Garcia, from near midfield, sent in a cross to Valeria Jaramillo, who beat OC goalkeeper Anna Walker to put the Dustdevils ahead.
The Lady Eagles’ best chance to score came in the 52nd minute, when Mackenzii Bieke’s right-to-left shot from about 16 yards out went just wide.
TAMIU went up 2-0 in the 61st minute. Paige Johnson’s booming free kick from 45 yards out landed deep inside the penalty box and Laura Twinem tapped the ball into the net.
In the 63rd minute, Claudia De Lara headed home a cross from the left side by Garcia, putting TAMIU up 3-0.
Walker went the distance in goal and made five saves. Katelin Jennings and Anna Martinez combined on the shutout for TAMIU, with Jennings making four saves in 78 minutes and Martinez adding one more in her 12 minutes of work. The Dustdevils now are 6-0-1 on the road this soccer season.
Callie White led OC with four shots, while Bieke and Gigi Gonzalez had two shot each.
