OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 14, 2013) – Ashley Cottrell scored two goals and assisted on a third as visiting Midwestern State (Texas) beat Oklahoma Christian 3-0 on Saturday night.
Midwestern State (2-2) outshot the Lady Eagles 20-10 and controlled the possession for much of the game, but needed two late goals to put away OC (1-3).
OC played the Mustangs even until the 38th minute, when Cottrell broke free, dribbling down the right side and firing a shot past OC goalkeeper Lindsey Williams.
The Lady Eagles’ best scoring chances were near-misses off a pair of free kicks by Sophia Brazil in the final 20 minutes, which just missed their intended targets, Estefania Bermudez Delgado and Areli Bermudez Delgado, respectively.
Katy Catney put the Mustangs up 2-0 in the 85th minute, taking a pass from Cottrell and beating goalkeeper Anna Walker, who played the second half for OC. In the final minute, Cottrell knocked in a corner kick from Catney to make it 3-0.
Williams made one save while Walker had four for the Lady Eagles. Midwestern State goalkeeper Kallie Essary made three saves.
OC will visit archrival Southern Nazarene on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
