BETHANY, Okla. (Sept. 17, 2013) – Sherri Collins and Bekah Stewart each scored a second-half goal for Southern Nazarene, leading the Crimson Storm past visiting Oklahoma Christian 2-0 on Tuesday night at Wes Harmon Field.
SNU (4-1) outshot the Lady Eagles 20-4 and played solid defense, not allowing OC (1-4) a shot until the second half. Only one of those shots, in the 49th minute by Somer Helms, was on goal, and SNU goalkeeper Yoli Zamarripa made the save.
Collins headed in a pass from Tatiane Carvalho in the 63rd minute to put the Crimson Storm ahead. In the 70th minute, Stewart dribbled down the middle of the field and beat OC goalkeeper Lindsey Williams from about 15 yards out.
“I thought we battled and competed tonight,” OC women’s soccer coach Randall Robison said. “We felt like the first half was pretty solid, organized in the back, and we stuck to playing our game. We had about a 20-minute period of the second half that we struggled, when our intensity dropped.
“We have to learn that we can’t have these moments when the other team outworks us. Overall, it was a good effort by our team but we simply have to be better.”
Williams went the distance in goal for the Lady Eagles and made nine saves.
OC will start a three-game homestand on Monday, hosting St. Gregory’s.
